Camp Cooke was built in the fall of 1866 in the angle of land between the Judith and Missouri rivers in central Montana. It was built as a temporary post but remained in operation until spring of 1870. Franklin Miller was a soldier in the 13th U.S. Infantry, Fort Riley, Kansas, until 1866. He then served at Camp Cooke and was discharged on August 5, 1867.
